Living Arrows is about celebrating childhood. It’s a weekly series run by Donna at What the Redhead Said which involves sharing a moment each week with others. The project originally took it’s name from a poem by Kahlil Gibran: “You are the bows from which your children as living arrows are sent forth”.
Living Arrows 6/52 – 2017
Unfortunately week 5 of January was a bit of a void week for us. Hence why I didn’t manage to post anything for that week.
Not only were both Chase and I hit with another illness. But I also had a particularly tough week coping with my mental health.
Although still a bit off in terms of continued illness and stress, this week was a little better. I tried to relax, and keep my mind off of things by actively doing things with Chase.
On Wednesday, my husband had a job interview and a Dr’s appointment, and Chase had nursery. So I took a last minute vacation day in order to become chaperone for the day. In the afternoon, Chase and I took advantage of a rare spurt of sunshine to play outside.
Our house is surrounded by woodlands. So as well as playing in the garden, we went for a wander outside the house to play in the trees. Chase just loved being able to walk in between the trees and branches. Especially the crunching sound of autumnal leaves under his feet!
We’ve always tried to make bath time as fun and engaging as possible for Chase. It’s one part of the day that he’s always enjoyed. Until recently that is. For some reason he just flipped a switch at Christmas, and started to not enjoy the bath. He point blank refuses to sit down. And absolutely hated getting his hair wet.
It’s taken the best part of two months to get him enjoying his baths again. Although, he will still only stand whilst in there! We’ve re-introduced some of his old water toys, as well as purchasing some new ones to encourage him to interact and play rather than think about being in water.
Daddy also joins us at bath time now – which previously it was always just me. This has actually really helped Chase to get more involved again. Daddy is definitely his “favourite” person to interact with at the moment!
This week, I’ll be decorating Chase’s bedroom – So hopefully this will keep me preoccupied from various stresses, and help keep me thinking positively!
